Crunchy Cheese Straws with a Kick-- farewell to cohabitation

This would be the last concoction from the old loft -- the place where cohabitation existed, where there were once upon a time, 2 life to balance. It is coming to an end. I am still a bit sad about how it has concluded, but life goes on. Technically this should be the last post under the current blog name, but I am too preoccupied at the moment to open a new blog, so consider the rest of this blog a not-so-organic continuation, if you will.

I decided to make something a bit different, a savory snack that I have never attempted before.

Crunchy Cheese Straws with a Kick
makes 24 straws
  • 1/2 cup graded sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Colby Jack cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded 4-cheese blend (or your cheese of choice)
  • 1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup cornmeal
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • dash of black pepper
  • dash of cayenne pepper
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a mixing bowl, melt the butter and cheese over the double boiler or in a microwave. Stir to mix.
  3. Add in the remaining ingredients, and spread the mixture on a baking sheet.
  4. Slice the mixture into a 1/3 inch x 2 inch strips.  Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes, or until the outside gets golden brown and crispy. Enjoy!

Cost Balance:
I spent about $3.00 for the cheese, and the final cost came to less than $0.25/serving. What a delicious steal!
