the Simplest Homemade Peanut Butter -- the Beer-Nut Butter

Laziness often lead to the creations of something great. Why else do we appreciate the the remote control or a dish washer so much? Today, I may have just stumbled upon another great thing to have in your life (assuming you are not allergic to it): beer-nut butter!
Homemade peanut butter is already among the simplest grocery items that tastes a hundred times better if you make it at home. I love Alton Brown's recipe with roasted peanuts and honey. There really is not much effort involved: put peanuts, oil, and seasoning in a food processor, and process!

How can you make it even simpler? Great question! Let me show you how to make a flavorful peanut butter with just two ingredients.

Beer-nut Butter
(simple homemade peanut butter)
makes 40 Tbsp servings
  • 1 container of Beer Nuts (19oz)
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil (or corn/vegetable oil)
  1. Dump the beer nuts and oil in a food processor.
  2. Process for about 5 minutes. Scrap down the sides at one-minute interval. You can add additional seasoning if you want, after 3 minutes or so.
Cost:
The official website has beer nuts listed at $6.79 per 190z container, which puts the higher limit at $0.18/serving. Needless to say I got a good deal from amazon grocery and cut the cost down by almost 50%.

Needless to say, the peanut butter carries over the sweet and salty taste from the beer nuts. I can see how a dash of honey may produce a more complicated flavor profile, but I am happy to eat it as it is! Let me tell ya, it makes a hell of a satisfying snack after spending 8 hour in the lab on a Saturday. (Now you've got to cut me some slacks for "cheating" with beer nuts.)
